High school sophomores
offered a unique chance to lead
Applications
are being accepted for an innovative program that offers PPS
10th-graders the opportunity to engage with city and community
leaders and to develop their own relationship and leadership
skills. The Emerging Leadership Program is open to all
sophomores; students of color, those from lower-income homes, as
well as students not previously active in leadership positions,
are strongly encouraged to apply.
Up to three sophomores from
each of the school district’s high schools and the
Metropolitan Learning Center will be selected for the program.
During four half-day sessions, they will meet with business,
education, social services and government organizations and
engage in hands-on leadership activities. Upon completion of the
program, they will receive a $100 stipend.
The Portland Schools Foundation
funds the Emerging Leadership Program, which is in its third
year.
